Tick Prevention for Horses

We have been receiving reports of ticks on horses in our area recently and wanted to share how you can prevent ticks from attaching to your horse and kill any that may already be on them. Vectra 3D is a topical flea and tick medication labeled for dog use but is safely used in horses to repel and kill ticks and biting flies.  Attached is a link to an article explaining how to apply the product to your horse.  You have to purchase the 3 pack of the large dog (95+ lb) dose and this will be one application for one horse.  We sell this product, without a prescription, on our online pharmacy, https://mtlaramie.myvetstoreonline.pharmacy

Here is the link on how to apply the product:

New Pharmacy Site

MLVS has decided to move to a new online pharmacy system.  With this new pharmacy offering, we have more control over the pricing which should lower costs for our clients.  We also feel the customer service is superior to our previous system.  This system has very close integration with our existing suppliers, which will reduce product discrepancies moving forward.

We feel this change will be positive for us as your veterinarian, and for you as the client.  Let us know if you have any questions about the pharmacy, or need assistance.

News and Updates

It has been a busy few months for MLVS!  As always we are looking for ways to improve efficiency and offer more services in the field.  We recently upgraded the vet truck with a larger vet pack to carry more tools and supplies in the field.  This helps us streamline the day and in the end it lets us see more patients.  You might notice a slightly different looking vet truck zipping around town!

We have had several requests for the ability to tranquilize wild or difficult animals over the past few months.  In order to satisfy those requests MLVS invested in a cartridge fired dart gun.  Let us know if you need an animal tranquilized by calling the office to schedule an appointment!

New Diagnostic Tools

NEW! We now have in-house blood machines added to our diagnostics arsenal. By investing in these machines, we are able to save our clients money by not having to send our blood samples to an outside lab. We are also able to get test results the same day! This helps us decide on a course of treatment much faster than was previously possible!

NEW! We now have a stall-side tester for diagnosing infection in horses. By testing for Serum Amyloid A, we can determine whether or not antibiotics should be used on a case-by-case basis. By performing followup tests, we can determine if the antibiotics are working, or if the infection is gone we can stop the antibiotics sooner than would normally be possible. This is new and exciting technology!

New! Online Pharmacy!

Our new online pharmacy is now operational.  You can pick up prescription drugs, specialty foods, and other supplies that Dr. Crowley recommends directly from our store!  The store is extremely easy to use and prices are competitive with other “online” pharmacy services.  Clients will have the ability to send a request to Dr. Crowley for approval to purchase products as needed.  If your animal is on a long-term prescription, make sure to select the auto-ship option for free shipping to your door!

You can access the online pharmacy by:

1) Click on the “Pharmacy” link in the navigation bar of the MLVS website.

2) Click on the shopping cart to enter the pharmacy store.

3) Enter the product you are looking for in the search bar in the upper-right hand corner of the pharmacy store.  You can also log in to see any prescriptions or recommendations that Dr. Crowley has pre-approved for you.

Contact us if you have any issues with the online pharmacy system and we will be happy to guide you through the process.
