MLVS is equipped with advanced mobile diagnostic technology, including digital radiography and digital ultrasound. At MLVS we are aware that some injuries may prevent you from transporting your animal to a clinic. With our mobile imaging equipment, we can help you determine if it is safe to move the animal for more advanced care. Our diagnostic tools allow us to catch minor problems before they develop in to something critical.
Digital x-ray allows MLVS to view images immediately in the field to determine the best treatment course. Detail provided by digital x-ray is vastly superior to traditional systems. We use a large 10″x 12″ plate which can reduce the number of images required for a proper diagnosis. This reduces the cost for the client.
Digital Ultrasound can be used for diagnosing tendon and ligament injuries in horses, determining pregnancy and reproductive status in mares, fast scans of small animal abdominal conditions, and more.
Acupuncture points can also be used as diagnostic tools. Pain elicited on palpation of certain points can indicate problems in other parts of the body. Acupuncture point scans can distinguish subtle lameness issues that are not obvious to the observer as the animal moves.
NEW! We now have in-house blood machines added to our diagnostics arsenal. By investing in these machines, we are able to save our clients money by not having to send our blood samples to an outside lab. We are also able to get test results the same day! This helps us decide on a course of treatment much faster than was previously possible!
NEW! We now have a stall-side tester for diagnosing infection in horses. By testing for Serum Amyloid A, we can determine whether or not antibiotics should be used on a case-by-case basis. By performing followup tests, we can determine if the antibiotics are working, or if the infection is gone we can stop the antibiotics sooner than would normally be possible. This is new and exciting technology! You can read more about it here.
NEW! MLVS now uses Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field (PEMF) Therapy in the treatment of injuries and to assist in diagnostics! You can read more about this technology here.
NEW! Mt. Laramie Veterinary Services is excited to bring our clients the best in regenerative medicine, Pro-Stride® APS joint therapy, which we’ve recently added to our practice. We are very excited to offer this cutting-edge technology to help your horse.
Pro-Stride is an Autologous Protein Solution (APS) containing a high concentration of cells, platelets, growth factors, and anti-inflammatory proteins to treat inflammatory processes in joints. This all-natural, drug-free option takes 30 minutes to process with no incubation time and treatment can be provided in a single visit. An additional benefit of Pro-Stride is that there is no withholding time for both FEI and USEF events.
In degenerative joint diseases, such as arthritis, inflammatory cells bind to the cell receptors on the joint surface and start breaking down the cartilage. Cartilage breakdown leads to joint damage and pain. Interleukin-1 (IL-1) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) are two major pro-inflammatory proteins, also known as cytokines, which lead to the degeneration of the joints.
